Whether you decide to use the traditional square photos in some or all of the following ways, your guests will be sure to appreciate your individualism.
Save the Dates
For unique save-the-date notices for your wedding, pull out the old Polaroid camera and follow these simple steps.
- Take a plain white piece of paper and write your and your fiance's names, the wedding date and time, and the location.
- Find a neutral background to pose in front of and someone to take the photo for you.
- Pose with your fiance, holding the sign with the words visible in between the two of you.
- In a couple minutes, you should have a clear photo.
- Make copies at your local copy center, and hand them or send them out to your friends and family. (Make sure that you only give them to people who are definitely going to be invited to the wedding.)
Your Wedding Photos
Although you probably want your photographer to shoot most of the wedding photos with their professional camera, have them take a couple with your Polaroid. You can put these in a special picture frame made for them, such as this. The grainy quality of the photos adds a certain depth that digital photos don’t usually achieve, and you’ll be glad to have some unique photos from the day.
Entertainment and Guest Book in One!
Once your guests arrive at the reception area, they can start participating in the making of your wedding guest book. You’ll need an area with a neutral backdrop, someone to man the station and take the photos, plenty of Polaroid film, and one of these guest books. (As well as a Polaroid camera!)
Have each family or couple pose for two shots. When they have developed, they can slide one into a page of the guest book and write a personal message to the bride and groom. This can be done throughout the reception so that no long lines form, and it will help you remember all the people that shared your big day!
Favors
The guests can take their other photo and slide it into a special Polaroid picture frame, which is theirs to keep. These can be found on this Web site. Be sure to have silver or gold permanent markers available for them to write the date and occasion on the frame. This personal favor can be enjoyed much longer than the traditional Jordan almonds!
The Bottom Line
Because Polaroid is no longer selling their traditional cameras, using the square photos will make your day extra special. The sense of nostalgia that they bring will mean appreciative guests and great memories for everyone involved.
